Some guests mark a milestone with two therapists at once. Four hand massage costs 360 euros an hour for one guest and needs room on both sides of the bed, so a suite or an apartment suits it better than a compact double. When the birthday lands on a busy date

Some dates in Amsterdam are busier than others. King's Day at the end of April, Pride in summer, the Amsterdam Dance Event in October and the stretch between Christmas and New Year all fill the city, and bookings on those dates always carry half ahead. If your birthday falls on one of them, book earlier still. The rates themselves stay exactly as they are.

A couple marking it together

If you are travelling with a partner, the birthday can be marked by both of you. One therapist shared between you is 360 euros an hour; a therapist each is 720. All present have to be twenty-one or over, and both of you must have said yes before anything is booked. It cannot be arranged as a surprise for a partner who has not agreed, however kindly the idea is meant.

Timing it around the celebration

A milestone day usually has other things in it: a long lunch, calls from family, perhaps a gathering in the early evening. Leave a margin after the last of them before the booked hour, and give that hour in Amsterdam time, since relatives abroad have a way of pulling a phone back to the clock at home. A start at nine or ten in the evening is common on birthdays, and nothing is added for the hour.

Some guests want the night of the birthday itself to be unlike any other. A birthday booked a fortnight ahead leaves time to look through the profiles properly. Each shows her age, her languages, the district she travels from and photographs published with her agreement. Name the woman you would like in your message and the reply says whether she is free on the date; if she is not, it says who is, and the decision remains yours. Nothing is held until you confirm.

What she decides

Whatever the occasion, the therapist decides which bookings she accepts and what a session includes. She states her limits in her own words at the start of the visit, and they hold until she leaves. A birthday changes the mood of an evening, not those terms, and few guests would want it otherwise.

If the plans change on the day

Birthday plans move: a family call runs long, a lunch turns into an afternoon. If the start needs to shift, write as soon as you know, and the reply says whether the new hour works. Moving to another date is free once, if asked for more than twenty-four hours ahead and within fourteen days. Cancelling inside the final day, before she has set out, keeps half the deposit; once she is on her way, all of it is kept unless the hour goes to another guest.

The message to write

Date, hour, place, length, and a name from the roster or a sentence about the evening. Add that it is a birthday if you wish. It changes nothing about the figure and helps her judge the mood.
